Case Study: Koh Mak – SEO & AEO on a Lovable-Built Website in 30 Days

Table of contents

  • Client: Koh Mak Inside Information
  • Project: SEO and AEO for a Lovable-built travel guide and accommodation website
  • Website: Koh Mak travel guide (kohmak.info)
  • Period compared: 18 Aug – 18 Sep 2026 vs 17 Jul – 17 Aug 2026 (Google Search Console)

In the first 30-day comparison, the Koh Mak website grew Google impressions by 60% (2,105 to 3,372) and clicks by 24% (42 to 52). Impressions in Google’s generative AI features rose 58%, and 94 search queries appeared that had no impressions in the previous period. The numbers are small in absolute terms, which is normal for a niche island guide, but the direction is clear and it came from structure, not from ads.

About the Client

Koh Mak Inside Information is a guide to Koh Mak, a quiet island in the Gulf of Thailand near Trat. It combines practical travel content (ferries, weather, beaches, visa rules, activities such as Muay Thai, tennis and pickleball) with a collection of villas and resort stays that guests can enquire about and book directly. Search traffic comes mostly from Europe, with Thailand and the US growing.

Challenge

The site had limited search presence. Three things stood in the way:

  • Low visibility. Most travellers search for “Koh Mak resort”, “Koh Mak hotels” or “where to stay in Koh Mak” and the website was not yet a consistent answer for those searches.
  • A Lovable-built website. The site was built and edited with Lovable, so every SEO change had to be implemented cleanly inside that workflow, without breaking design or speed.
  • Search is changing. Travellers now ask Google’s AI features and chat assistants the same questions, so the content also had to be easy for answer engines to read and quote. This is what AEO and GEO are about.

Solutions

SEO Company Bangkok handled the strategy and the Lovable implementation. The work was planned in the order below.

1. Keyword and competitor research

We mapped how travellers actually search for the island (accommodation, getting there, beaches, activities, comparisons with nearby islands) and checked what competing guides already covered. Each important search intent got one clear target page, so pages stopped competing with each other.

2. Clean on-page foundations, implemented in Lovable

Across the 47 pages we crawled, every page has its own title tag, meta description and H1, all pages return a 200 status, and each page points to itself as the canonical URL. Titles lead with the search term and add a reason to click, for example Koh Mak Ferry from Laem Sok – Schedule & Prices. For an introduction to these elements, see our technical SEO glossary and our guide to on-page and off-page SEO.

3. Pages built around real traveller questions

We built or rebuilt pages for the questions people ask before they book:

  • Koh Mak vs Koh Kood for people choosing between islands
  • Getting to Koh Mak and the Koh Mak ferry page for transport
  • Best time to visit Koh Mak, weather and visa pages for planning
  • Activity pages for Muay Thai on Koh Mak, tennis and pickleball
  • Where to stay on Koh Mak and individual villa pages for people ready to book

4. Internal linking and AEO-ready content

Pages were linked to each other by topic, so a visitor reading about ferries is one click from accommodation and activities. Content was structured with clear headings and direct answers, which helps both Google and AI assistants pick it up. A guest-review blog was also launched, turning real Google reviews into articles about the island.

New queries and new markets

  • New queries: 94 queries had no impressions in the previous period. Examples include “koh mak best beaches” (average position 3.5), “koh mak gym” (4.8) and “boende koh mak” (2.1), the Swedish word for accommodation.
  • Markets: clicks from Germany went from 6 to 15 and from France from 2 to 8, and Italy produced its first clicks. Impressions from the United States grew from 424 to 1,186 with average position improving from 12.4 to 4.6.
  • AI search: impressions in Google’s generative AI features grew from 26 to 41, a small base but a useful early signal for AEO.

What the Numbers Do Not Say Yet

This is a 30-day snapshot, so we are careful with it. Click-through rate fell from 2.0% to 1.5%, because impressions grew faster than clicks as the site started appearing for broader searches. Broad head terms such as “koh mak” still sit far down the results, and informational searches such as “things to do in Koh Mak” are only just starting to appear. These are the targets for the next phase, and we will publish an update with 90-day data.

Next Steps

  • Consolidate the homepage variants (www / non-www, http / https) so ranking signals go to one URL.
  • Push the activity, beach and travel-planning pages from the top 20 toward the top 5.
  • Grow the guest-review blog and link every post to the matching service, activity or accommodation page.
  • Keep tracking AI feature impressions and AI referral traffic month by month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Lovable website rank well on Google?

Yes. A Lovable website can rank when the basics are implemented properly: unique titles and descriptions, one H1 per page, canonical URLs, crawlable internal links and useful content. The Koh Mak site is a working example.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Early signals such as impressions, new queries and better average positions can appear within the first month, as they did here. Steady growth in clicks and enquiries usually builds over three to six months.

What is the difference between SEO and AEO?

SEO helps your pages rank in search results. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) structures your content so that AI assistants and answer features can understand it and quote it. Read more in What is AI SEO?
